Founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo, Yahoo is the door to all internet information. This company was once a common household name para sa mga internet users.
Just as my investment, they went down into the drain!
Alam mo ba kung bakit sila nag-failed? Here’s the story…
Turning down the King of Searches
Noong 1998, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) approached Yahoo for an offer of $1 milllion. Pero hindi sila naging interesado. They did not take ACTION to purchase.
Second time around in 2002, nagkaron sila ulit ng opportunity to swallow Google for 5 Billion US dollars! Again, they did not take the ACTION!
Now, Google is the giant of all search engines. Google is now the household name of all searches in the internet. They have grown to become one of the largest companies int the world. Google has a current Market Cap of 578 Billion dollars!
The Facebook Affair
And they knocked down another opportunity! Facebook was offered for 1 Billion dollars lang. Pero si Yahoo, tumawad ng $850 million dollars. The offer was turned down by the young founder, Mark Zuckerberg.
It is now $391 Billion Dollar company. And Facebook is now one of the biggest company in the world. Facebook has grown to become the darling of social media!
Sayang na naman, YAHOO!
The Software King found Yahoo!
Isa na namang pagkakamali nila ay noong 2008. This time si Microsoft naman ang gustong bumili kay Yahoo. Microsoft offered $44.6 Billion dollars. Hindi pumayag si Yahoo sa offer.
Hindi na naman sila umaksyon!
Taking my losses
I decided to sell my stocks at a great loss! I was left with very few thousand dollars with my investment. I, too, did not make a quick decision to part ways with this internet darling.
There is a saying that “Opportunity does not knock twice.” But in the case of Yahoo, opportunity from Google knocked twice on their door. But the problem is that they knocked down the opportunity by not taking massive action!
Where is Yahoo now?
So where is Yahoo now? Yahoo was chewed by Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ). Alam mo kung magkano nabili? Verizon paid only $4.8 billion for the company. That was the end of an era for an Internet Pioner!
Sana nag-invest ako during the IPO ni GOOG. Sana nag-invest ako during the IPO ni FB.
The moral of the story
Don’t make the Yahoo’s mistake! When opportunity knocks on your door, open and let it in. And if opportunity doesn’t knocks on your door, you have to create the opportunity.
Be strong, be brave and be bold to take action! The decision you take this time will make or break you in the future. It’s much better to try than to not at all. Sabi nga nila, “the biggest risk is doing nothing at all.” Time will pass anyway, so why not enjoy the journey? Do I regret my investment with Yahoo!? Not at all. At least I tried.
After falling down so deep with my finances kung saan isang malaking losses ko sa pag-invest kay Yahoo, I’m on my way to saving one million peso sa aking Unit Investment Trust Fund. Still a long way to go, but if I continue my strategy to put money every month sa aking trust fund, in five years, I will be back where I once have been sa aking investment.
Sabi nila, one good investment out of a hundred failures can bring you a fortune that will take care of you and your family for the rest of your life. But for now, I’d settle for being average (or even less than average), and let time to do the work for me. No more impatience. Enjoy the passing of time and never miss a moment to enjoy the things I have. I’ll take the marathon, not the big hitter for a home run.
Do you want to join the ride? I can coach you to get started with your journey sa pag-abot mo sa iyong pangarap na maging milyonaryo.
Here’s to your success!
